What’s Been Happening in the Studio
The Year of the Fire Horse
I started a series of horse paintings—something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Horses have always been meaningful to me, and it felt like the right time to finally begin. It’s one of those things that keeps coming back to me, and I’m always thinking about where I want to take it next.
The past few months in the studio have been a little slower—but not in a bad way. Things have still been moving, just at a quieter, steadier pace.
At the start of the year, I began exploring some new ideas, including a bit of a fire horse theme. It’s something I’m still figuring out as I go, which has actually been part of the fun.
The style I’ve been working in feels new and a little challenging, but in a good way. It’s pushed me to think differently, and I’ve really been enjoying that.
Lu’s 2.5-Year-Old Artistic Energy
The studio has had some extra energy lately too—my nephew Lu loves spending time in there painting with me. He loves using all the different brushes and colors, and it’s been really fun to just let him create. Seeing the space through his eyes has been a good reminder not to overthink things, and to just enjoy the process.
Lately, I’ve also been working on some custom painted hats for a few people, and I honestly love doing these. There’s something really special about creating something personal that someone can wear and connect with.
I’m also getting a few new hats ready to share online, especially with summer coming.
New Goals Taking Shape
Like a lot of people, I’ve been looking forward to warmer weather, more sunshine, and that shift in energy that seems to come with it.
Behind the scenes, I’ve also been dreaming up some ideas with my sister, who’s an artist as well. We’re still in the early stages, but I’m really excited to keep building on those ideas and see where they go.
Art has always been a part of our lives, but leaning into it more fully right now feels different—in the best way. It feels intentional. Like this is exactly where we’re meant to be.
And I’m really excited to see what comes next.
